Pink Saturday

On my weekly jaunt to my favorite antique/flea market today I ran onto a couple of things I would like to share with you for this PINK SATURDAY. I found this great little table cloth with pink flowers on it for only $5.00.
But then I focused in on this.............it is a vintage umbrella holder. I fell in love with it. It is so victorian, romantic and beautiful. The images on it are lovely and I have never seen anything like this before. It is lined on the bottom and inside with a quilted satiny fabric.

I think I will use it for something other than umbrellas, since I don't own a full sized umbrella. All of mine are the fold up kind that will fit in a purse. LOL

Has anyone else ever seen an umbrella holder like this?

Marydon at Blushing Rose showed on one of her posts her table setting and she was using a cute little coaster, so I wrote her and asked where she got it and someone had made it for her. Well, I just loved hers so decided I would whip me up one. I made 4!!!!! So handy for your drinks and pretty too.

I got a surprise this morning, yesterday these resurrection flowers were about 6" tall and today they are 2' tall and blooming. They are so mysterious. They come up like tulip leaves in early spring and don't bloom and then early August they sprout up from nothing and bloom. Awesome!!

Lastly, I know this isn't pink, but I laid it on a pink quilt, does that count? I bought two of these T Shirts and used one to cut up for ruffles to put on the other one. This shirt is actually more turquoise but my picture looks blue. It turned out really cute.

Thank you Beverly for hosting another PINK SATURDAY party. You're the greatest. Check out her blog and look at all the other Pink Ladies contributions. Have a great weekend.
Hugs to you all,
Ginger

Pink Saturday

I am having to post my Pink Saturday post a little early because of schedules. Thought I would show you the neat shelf I bought for my crafts supplies. If you can't go out, go up, isn't that what they say? My little craft room is so full I decided this shelf would be great since I can put a lot on it right there on my craft table, oh........ I mean STUDIO table!!!LOL
See what I mean, it holds a lot and it is all at arms length away. I love it.
Before going any futher I need to thank Beverly for hosting this PINK SATURDAY. You need to go see all the other blogs participating on Bevs blog at How Sweet The Sound.
Thanks Beverly for all you do.

I recently ordered this great little bag from Annie G Aprons and Bags. She makes aprons, purses, shopping bags, etc. go check her out. I am really happy with mine. She does such beautiful work and love the fabrics she uses.

It is completely washable, and lined with pockets inside. Love the ruffles, flower and bow. Don't you?

And I made this bag. I was inspired by another blog that made this purse. It is made from a hand towel, then I took a pink T-shirt and cut strips on the diagonal, gathered them to make the ruffles and sewed on both sides of the bag. Also made the little rose on the front from the ruffles. I used the circle bamboo looking handles, but next time I think I will use material for the handles.

I think this purse took me a total of about 30 minutes to make. And I have had so many compliments on it.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your Pink Saturday!!!!!

Lunch Bag Beauties

I have been busy using up some extra pieces of my scrapbook paper. I saw the idea on another blog and it gave me the inspiration to make some gift bags using my scraps. The flowers on the clothes pins are so easy to make and make a great closure for the bag. Just punch out 3-4 scalloped discs, stick a brad through them, crunch them up and glue to a clothes pin.

It was really easy to decorate the bags and I made some for Halloween, birthday, Christmas, and just whatever ones. It's a great way to use up all those extra pieces of paper you have laying around everywhere, I have so many my box is overflowing. I keep my pieces in folders by color and it really stacks up. Use a decorative edge punch to make the bottom of the piece cutsey then just glue the top on the back side of the bag and fold over to make a lip on the bag.

I embellished with tulle, buttons, paper flowers and clothes pins. Let your imagination go wild.

Here are the ones for Halloween. Wouldn't they be cute to give some little goblin a special treat in? Maybe a carmel apple or popcorn ball? I think so.

I made a fabric rose and put a hair clip on the back and used it to clip the top together for this one. You could also use a stamp or hand write something on the bag like Happy Halloween, or whatever for the event.

Wouldn't your child or grandchild feel extra special taking his or her lunch to school in one of these? Or just getting something as a surprise in one of these?
Hope you enjoyed seeing what I have been up to lately.

Candle Makeover

I recently transformed these great candles from the blue ones with little fishies on them to these great pink candles with roses on them.
With all our rain we have been having in Oklahoma the mosquito population is horrible. So I went to my local Dollar General Store in search of some citronella candles which are suppose to repel the mosquitoes. The only color they had was blue.

Well, blue isn't my favorite color and it just wouldn't do with my pink and white patio decor.
So, being the queen of re-do, I decided to paint the candle pots pink with my pink slipper spray paint.

Now doesn't that look better? I think so.

But it still didn't look quite done....................................so I decided a few roses would be in order here. Perfect, now I love my little citronella candles and they match very well on my pink patio.

Who says you have to SETTLE!!! Hope you will be inspired to spruce up something you think won't do for you also. It was great fun making them into something I love.

Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday fellow pinkies!!! Today I am showing various parts of my home that have pink in them. I love this old coal bucket that has been painted with roses.
I like to hang ornate frames up and put something of interest in the middle to "frame" it.

My hydrangeas this year are spectacular and still blooming their heads off.

My husband made this birdhouse from the wood from my family's homestead. The barn was built after the Land Run in Oklahoma. They raced to a plot of land in Northwest Okla and made their claim. It is still in my family. The barn was probably built about 1897. The wind finally blew the barn down and I picked up some of the pieces of wood. It still has the original nails in the side of it. This wood is so hard you can hardly saw it. The picture is of my grandmother on my other side of the family with 3 of her children, the far left being my Mom and the man is her twin.

This is one of my oil paintings I painted about 1983. I loved painting with oils but it takes a lot of time to finish one. I think this was my first attempt. Those are little ducks in the water. I painted several others of barns in the woods over the years. Now I would rather paint roses!!!

Finally, I leave you with a book a dear friend of mine gave me after I had such a fit over finding it when we were cleaning out her house when she first bought it. The man who lived there before had boxes and boxes of books. This book was part of a set.

This yellow is not all my poor photography, it is the color of the book from age. It does not have a date anywhere in the book, so I don't know when it was published.
I need to thank Beverly again for hosting this Pink Saturday fun, be sure to visit her blog and see all the pretty pinks everyone has to offer.
Hugs

CCFA Walk

Today I want to talk a little bit about something very near and dear to my heart!! My son. He has ulcerative colitis which is a disease of the colon that can be very debilitating. Colitis (UC) and Crohns disease are little talked about and not many people even know what it is or what it entails for the sufferers of this disease. The intermost lining of the large intestine becomes inflamed and wears away forming ulcers. Diarrhea, tummy pain, weight loss, fever, arthritis and liver problems are common. And these are not the worst symptoms.
This is my wonderful son Jeremy whom I love very much and so wish his disease could be funded to find a cure and some better medicines to treat his and 1.4 million other sufferers of these symptoms. That is what this walk was for that myself, my son and my daughter-in-love attended to raise money for the research and a cure of digestive diseases.

The walk was held at Stars and Stripes Park in beautiful Oklahoma City on June 12, 2010. Our hope and goal is that more people would be aware of this little known disease and "TAKE STEPS" to achieve more awareness so that their disease could be recognized and funded. It was a 3 mile stroll for crucial research, bringing us closer to a future free from Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns disease.

We would appreciate your help as we fight for a cure. The more money that is raised the closer we will be to make life more manageable for patients like my son who live with this disease
daily.

We had a good day that day being able to talk to other people who had hope for a better life due to the hundreds of people who joined in. The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation is sponsoring many of these TAKE STEPS walks all over the nation.

If you cannot help financially, please spread the word to let others know the plight of this organization. The donations send a child with these diseases to Camp Oasis and provide free information to patients to help them better understand their disease. This disease does not only affect adults but children and babies also. But the main goal is for research for better medicines and a cure.

The Stars and Stripes park in OKC was a beautiful place for a 3 mile walk.

Thank you for listening, and if you want more information or you would like to donate to this foundation, please go to www.ccfa.org
Thanks,
Ginger

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July!!!!! Tomorrow afternoon my kids and Mom are coming to my home and we are celebrating the 4th. It is an annual thing, the fireworks above was from last year. Cool huh?
This morning I made my potato salad, cake and these white chocolate covered pretzel sticks.
I think the taste of sweet and salty is perfect and it isn't too sweet. They are super easy to make.

I just melted some white chocolate in a microwavable coffee cup I had, broke each pretzel rod in half and dipped each piece in the chocolate.

Then I sprinkled some of these stars and stripes sprinkles on the chocolate part of the pretzel before it dried.

You can put as much on as you want but I went kind of light on the sprinkles in case some of my family didn't want the sprinkles. I also made some without the sprinkles.

Don't they look GOOD? They were, I snuck one and ate it. mmmmmmmmmmmm
In the morning I am going to make chocolate covered strawberries, cut up some cantaloupe and watermelon and use my melon baller to make it festive to munch on. We are having sub sandwiches this year instead of grilling. It has rained here all day, hopefully tomorrow will be dry.

This is the patio I decorated today. Just added flags and sparkly deco to existing fixtures.

This is my Uncle Sam windsock in the front of the house.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe 4th of July and please pray for the safety of our troops that cannot be with their families. GOD BLESS AMERICA, LONG MAY SHE LIVE.
