Teacup Tuesday

Its Teacup Tuesday and again, where did May go? I am showing you a cup and saucer I really love. Of course it has roses on it but the saucers that have the doily cut outs are my favorites.
The gold really sets it off and the rose inside the cup is beautiful.

It was made by Sealy of Japan. Be sure to click on the green cup on my sidebar at Marthas favorites to check out all the other teacups being shown. Terri is in Paris having a marvelous time, be sure to check out her blog at artful affirmations.

LET FREEDOM RING

I want to wish each and everyone a happy and respectful Memorial Day. My DH and I visited our local airport last weekend where they hosted a war memorial and Vietnam Traveling Wall. DH wanted to find the name of his neighbor that lived across the street in Detroit, Mich. who perished shortly after arriving in Vietnam in 1970 at age 20. DH served in the airforce during the Vietnam war stationed in Taiwan as a firefighter.
It is mind boggling how many perished to this horrible war that lasted so long. I remember it so well, I was a Senior in highschool when one of my classmates who had been drafted was lost to us.

Sometimes I think we take for granted what our soldiers stand for and what they do for our country and for us personally. When I see a soldier I try to thank them for their service and I have much respect for each and every one of them.

It makes me proud to see OUR FLAG and I get all gushy and teary eyed just thinking about it.

DH found his friends name.

There were other exhibits besides the wall such as this poster showing what each medal stands for and why they were presented.

There was a memorial to the firefighters and since my DH is a firefighter, this was special to him.

They presented a memorial and there were speakers who honored and read the names of those soldiers that perished from our county during the Iraq/Afghanistan war.

This exhibit meant a lot to me. My DAD is of this greatest generation of WWII. He is still with us, although so many of them have passed. He was in WWII in the Battle of the Bulge and other campaigns, being one of three left in his division when the war ended, my grandfather (his dad) served in WWI, 2 great grandfathers in Civil War, both being captured as prisoners. I have great respect for our soldiers, past and present and I take this opportunity to honor them. Thank you for keeping our Country free......Let Freedom Ring!!!

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY PINK SATURDAY!

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY PINK SATURDAY!!! Pink Saturday has made a big difference in my life and my photography skills. And Beverly I love you for starting this beautiful PINK party.
When we went to Guthrie antiquing, I saw all of these retro 1950's pinks and knew they would
be great Pink Saturday material. Can you remember your Mom having some of these, I do. (Guess I am telling my age here, aren't I, but I just barely remember it, LOL)

Who knew that someday they would have been sought for antiques?

I don't know what was wrong with me that day, I took pictures of all these things and didn't buy them!!! I love the pink curvy bowl and the tray, and how cute is the tea canister. I'm going back.

And who didn't have Melmac dinner wear. The color of this is Pink Bubble Gum!!!

I know these aren't pink but they are just too cool to not show. See all the grease cans. My Mom had one just like the one on the top shelf by the little teapot grease pot. And also the little metal measuring cups, and think she still has those. Why didn't I buy the teapot one??? DUHHH!

There was just so much to see, you don't really SEE it! See the recipe books?

And I had planned to go back and get this mustache cup with the beautiful roses on it. But forgot to come back to get it, then when I saw it in my pictures, I'm kicking myself.

Well, I leave you with this great grease can!!! Be sure to stroll on over to Beverlys blog and see all the celebrating going on at the Second Birthday Party for PINK SATURDAY.
Hugs as always,
Ginger

Antiquing in Guthrie, Ok.

My DH and I are on vacation this week and yesterday we went to Guthrie, Ok. to do some antiquing and because it was our anniversary. The town has so much heritage and architecture, it is a lovely place to go and there are so many antique stores, it took us all day to get through just the ones that were open. Being on a Monday, a lot of them were closed.
The buildings are just beautiful and almost each of the buildings are seperate antique stores. There were so many antiques in each store, you could not possibly see everything. I was on the search for a new fireplace screen, metal preferably.

This corner building used to be a bank and they even have antiques in the vault. The store goes all the way back 3 rooms and they have a downstairs the same way. It is huge.

All of these buildings have lights like Christmas lights on the tops of the rooflines, I would love to see it at night.

DH even found a place to play rock star and sing into this oldtime microphone!! This little corner had all kinds of microphones, transistor radios, telegraph (morse code) machines, old radios, etc. He enjoyed this part. (It was windy outside, LOL)

I ran across this great rose picture with a gold frame, but of course as soon as I got it home I got the white paint out. I left it all white, but I think I am going to distress it, the pretty moulding doesn't show up leaving it plain white.

And then I found the prettiest fireplace screen and it even has roses on it. So I scooped up this beauty and put it in my Jeep before someone else saw it. It was only $29.99

But then, guess what????? I found exactly what I was looking for in the next store, it was perfect, how could I pass it up, but I had already bought one, all sales are final,............then my knight in shining armor said.......oh, go ahead and get it, you know you want it..... so in my Jeep it went too!!!!

And of course it got a coat or two of white paint also and it has a new home with me. What do you think? I am estatic with how it turned out. I don't even notice the big BLACK HOLE so much now with that piece of beauty in front of it.

If you ever get the chance to go to Guthrie, Ok. be sure to check out all their antiquing and their wonderful history.
Hugs

Teacup

My teacup feature this week is made by Napco. It is a pedestal teacup with a scallop shape to the cup and the prettiest roses.
The color is sort of an aqua and it is lined with gold. I think this cup and saucer is one of my favorites.

Terri and Martha are hosting Teacup Tuesday and I am also showing my teacup for the first time with Teapot and Things Tuesday. To get to Teacup Tuesday, just click on the green teacup on my sidebar. Be sure to check both of these great sites out and look at all the pretty dishes.

Today was my 14th wedding anniversary and DH and I went to Guthrie, Ok. and did a lot of antiquing. What a great city for that. So much history there. I found many things and I will show them on future posts. Have a great Tuesday.

Roses, Roses Everywhere

After reading Carols blog at The Polka Dot Closet, I decided to try my hand at making some of her beautiful roses out of sculpey clay. She gives all the instructions in her tutorial on her blog. I was surprised how well they went together, really a lot of fun. Thank you so much Carol for the great instructions. I decided to glue them onto a magazine rack I have in my bedroom, need to make some leaves to put with them I think.
These were the extras. The clay came in this pink color. Really a pretty shade but I think the next ones I make will be white. I am displaying the roses in a dish I found at the thrift store.

I used a different kind of clay for these called Eberhard and I wasn't as happy with these, seemed like the clay softened too much and went limp. You bake both these types of clay. These would look cute in the corner of a frame or on a faux cake or cupcake.

My second contribution of roses comes from a beautiful website I ran across at www.doityourselfchic.com

Be sure to check it out they have a lot to offer from rose swags, angels, every kind of vine you can imagine to list a few.

I thought it would look great in my kitchen over my chandelier and I love it there. Really adds to my shabby kitchen. I will be ordering more of these beauties.
Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Bird on Canvas

Todays Pink Saturday post is about my day with my daughter. We traveled to Okla. City and went to a scheduled class to make this cute birdcage on canvas. We had a lot of fun
and learned some new techniques. Love the way it turned out. After the class we went to have lunch at our favorite tea room which we always enjoy, then on to T J Maxx for some serious shopping. They have the cutest things. We don't have these kind of great stores in our city and you can't beat the prices.

For instance this great candle lamp that when you see it next time will be painted white and hanging on my patio. I think it will look great and be so cute at night lit up with a candle for some ambiance. I only paid $12.99 for it.

I also found these cute little plates, I am really into the PARIS thing and just loved these. They will go so well with my black teapot and black and white cups if I decided to have a tea party.

I am also showing some of my dishes today. I am displaying some of them on this great little shelf I found at our thrift store for $4.00 with the intentions of painting it white, but it is a great shade of green which is a color incorporated in my room so think it will stay green for awhile.

I guess you could call me a collector of dishes because I just can't resist buying them, especially the ones with roses. The depression glass biscuit jar was my grandmothers and my Mom gave it to me. I treasure it.

This is the side of my cabinet in the kitchen. I love these two little plates, which I bought at different times and didn't even realize they were the same pattern, then when I noticed they were the same I decided to display them together. They are two different sizes. Why is it I am drawn to anything beautiful that always says either Austria or Germany on the back?

I have a table set in the dining/tea room with these dishes which I adore, I like to use several different kinds of antique dishes together.

I have four of the rose plates but only two of the rose bowls shown here. I would love to find two more. If anyone sees these bowls, please let me know.
Hope you enjoyed seeing some of my pinks today. Thank you Beverly for once again hosting this wonderful party and an opportunity to see all the PINK posts on your blog at How Sweet the Sound. Be sure to check them out.
Hugs

Teacup Tuesday

This week for Teacup Tuesday hosted by the lovely Miss Martha and Miss Terri I am showing a beautiful Lefton teacup and saucer.
I think Lefton makes the most unique and lovely sets and this one I found at my local antique shop. I usually never pay more than $10.00 for any of my sets and I don't remember exactly how much I paid for this one.

I especially love teacups when they have a pattern on the inside of the cup, as this one is with the rosebud inside.

I also love the colors in this cup and saucer with the wonderful roses, my favorite.
Please check out the other lovely teacups shown by the other ladies at Teacup Tuesday by just clicking on the teacup on the right side of this blog.
Happy Tuesday
